Greg Waits

Greg Waits (trombone) A Dallas native who currently resides in Rowlett, Greg earned a Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees from The University of North Texas. From 1981-84 he was a member of the Jazz Knights while at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

His performing credits include the Woody Herman Orchestra, Harry Connick Jr., Benny Goodman, Joe Williams and Red Garland, as well as as gigs with the ship's orchestras of the S.S. Norway and the S.S. Constitution.

Greg leads his own jazz group, featuring his original compositions. In addition, he is a big band leader on his own, fronting his 6 and 10 piece dance units around town. He is an in demand free lance trombonist, performing locally with many bands, including Joe McBride, Dave Alexander's "Legends of Western Swing", Latin Fire. et al.

Greg is a clinician for Bach Trombones and is the author of "Advanced Flexibility Studies For The Jazz Trombonist." He also produced and recorded his own CD "...and into the Light" in 1996, featuring jazz great Dave Liebman; that CD was named an "Editor's Choice" by Cadence magazine.
